Tilson Family Bio

Philip Tilson is the Director of Operations at Whispering Cedars.    While Phil and his family are recent additions to the full-time staff at Whispering Cedars, they have been involved in the camping program here for 8 seasons.  Phil and his wife Joyce bring many summers of camp experience in a variety of camps and assignments from the perspective of youth pastor, counselor, program directors, and more.  

Phil was born in Greenville, South Carolina and was raised on a ranch in Emmett, Idaho.  In the late 1970’s his family moved to the Kansas City area.  Pastor Phil was saved around age 7 in his home after a Sunday service.  He was baptized years later in Kansas City.  It was in the Kansas City church that he surrendered to God’s call to minister as a pastor. 

 Pastor Phil started his training at Faith Baptist Bible College in the Fall of 1985.  He finished his college training and seminary in the Spring of 1990.  He met his wife Joyce during his Junior year at FBBC.  They were married in August of 1990. 

Pastor Phil and his family served for 3 ½ years as a Youth Pastor in the state of Washington and then 7 ½  years in Council Bluffs, Iowa before joining the staff of Whispering Cedars.  His family includes 2 boys (Jonathan and Nathan) and a daughter, Alyssa.  He enjoys computers, the outdoor life, and paintball.
